Dear Preston
Family and Friends,
When I retired from teaching after 30 years, my dream was to live by the ocean.
I fell in love with 2102 B Surfrider Court upon first sight. I wanted to be able to open my door and look at the ocean
and oh, what a view! Over my 6 years
of living in my condo, I grew to love the community and the relaxing atmosphere of living with the sound of the surf lulling
me to sleep.
In 2005 Steve and I began building his dream log home on Lake Gaston. I
now spend most of my time at the lake, and felt it was a shame to have such a beautiful retreat at the beach and not share
it with others. I couldn’t bear the thought of emptying out all my personal
photos and turning it over to a real estate agency so I decided to rent only to people known to me or my family and friends.
My younger son, Jim, has used his computer expertise to set up and continually
update this website. My brother Bob, and sister-in-law, Lyn, now live in Leland and handle the cleaning and laundry.
My mom lives in Leland as well. I have tried to keep the costs less than
regular rentals so that it is affordable and that it is more like staying at a friend’s house than in a hotel. By the way, the name, Mermaid Cottage, was inspired by my friend, Diane, who gave
me the sign by the front door.
I am happy to be able to share my oasis by the sea with you. I hope you decide to reserve a spot on the calendar for your vacation.
